Add USB 3.0 to a Mac Pro with HighPoint's RocketU
I admit it was my fault for not looking closer, but do companies really this stupid? So I did my research on the Sonnet card. They clearly state that it works with Mac. And I'm happy to report that it does!!
Add USB to a Mac Pro with HighPoint's RocketU | Macworld
You plug it into an open PCIe slot and that's it--no muss no fuss. The card performs well. I haven't done any scientific comparisons with USB 2. Date published: The speed was nice but it caused the Mac Pro running Snow Leopard to lose Bluetooth connectivity and my mouse functionality was lost. My external Lacie quadra drives dismounted themselves everyday at least twice per day. Overall, after installing the card it made my system lock up and slightly unstable. The only issue is that it doesn't have an external power connector. That being the case, if you connect any USB devices which aren't self powered, then they will be drawing 5V directly from the PCI bus through the card.
When you run without external power the speeds are very sub-par and close to USB 2. I purchased an externally powered USB 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous from Don't waist your time with this card! This card is not stable on a Mac Pro.
The drive go offline and online randomly. It don't work with all drives and I got transfert error on some drives.
For exemple, I got transfert error message on a G-Raid mini and no problem on a Lacie. Also, I think this card is in conflict with the bluetooht because my magic mouse is going offline and online randomly.
